Unique Wedding favors ideas – Mason Jar recipes.

By Shanea Thompson
A wedding favor is a great way to say thank you to your guest that attend you special day. One of the best ways to do this is to give them something edible. A fun and inventive idea is to create a dry ingredient mason jar recipe. Below is a instructions on how to create 1 wedding favor.

Materials:
• 1 mason jar with rim
• 1 piece of fabric cover jar (any type of cotton works well)
• 1 piece of twine or raffia to wrap around the lid and secure the card
• 3”x5” card
• pinking shears
• paper punches
• colorful markers
• scissors
• 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
• 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions:
Combine the following ingredients into a large bowl; flour, baking soda and sugar. Add this mixture to the mason jar first, then add in the chocolate chips and finally place the brown sugar on top.

To close up your wedding favor place the piece of fabric over the top of the jar and screw the rim over the jar while holding the cloth in place. Cut off the edges that are sticking out from under the rim using pinking shears for a nice finished look.

Make the label for the favor. I folded a 3″ x 5″ piece of paper in half. Then, using the marker, write a message to your guests thanking them for coming to you special day on the front of the card. You can then use the pinking shears to shape the card edges for a bit more of a decorative look. On the opposite site of the card finish writing the rest of the recipe directions and ingredients:

• 3/4 cup softened butter.
• 2 eggs.
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
• Mix and drop cookies onto greased pan.
• Bake 8-10 min at 375 degrees.

Punch a small hole in the corner of the card, and tie, it around the favor.

Earth Friendly Bird Feeder

by Tiger and Lily Boutique

Materials:

  • Medium to large Pine cone
  • Lard
  • Bird seed
  • Paper plate
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Spoon
  • Here are the directions:

    1. Using the lard and spoon place a large amount of the lard onto and in the groves of the pine cone. Be sure to coat the pine cone well as this is what will help the bird seed stick to the bird feeder.

    2. Place a good amount of bird seed onto the paper plate.

    3. Roll the lard coated pine cone in the bird seed. Using your fingers place bird seed in the cracks and crevice of the pine cone. The key is to make as much of the bird seed stick into the lard that is on the pine cone.

    4. Tie the ribbon around the neck of the pine cone.

    5. Find a tree near your house and tie it. Make sure you tie it high enough in the tree for the birds to be safe from any predators while enjoying their earth friendly meal.

The kids and I decided to make one for each of the grandmas to brighten their day. How to Make Orange Eucalyptus Bath Salts by: Rebecca Dillon

Learn which salts are the best to use when making your own bath salts. Plus a recipe to make your own orange eucalyptus bath salts.

When making your own bath salts and scrubs, we recommend using only dead sea salts or epsom salts. Dead Sea Salts contain a considerably smaller proportion of sodium chloride than other salts. Sodium chloride, which makes up 80% of regular sea salts, and most of solar salt, kosher salt, and rock salt, do not offer therapeutic benefits and can also be harmful to people with high blood pressure and edema.

On the other hand, the balance of magnesium, potassium and calcium chlorides, and a comparatively high concentration of bromides in Dead Sea Salts are what make them beneficial. And recent studies show that bromides are a healing factor for psoriasis.

Epsom salts are also made up of magnesium sulfate. This ingredient is what pulls soreness from muscles, making them great for combating stress and relieving muscle aches. The magnesium also aids in the removal of acids through the skin. Now, here’s a recipe so you can make your own!

    Orange-Eucalyptus Bath Salts

Winter colds don’t leave you with much to be desired. Lift your spirits, ease muscle aches, and help clear nasal passages with this bath salt blend.

    Ingredients:
    1 Cup Fine Sea Salt
    1/2 tsp Liquid Glycerin
    1/2 Cup Epsom Salts
    8 drops eucalyptus essential oil
8 drops sweet orange essential oil

    Instructions:

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. To use, simply add 4 to 6 Tablespoons of salts to a hot tub. Keep unused salts sealed in an airtight container.

Clay Pot Crafts: Make a Bell for the Porch

Do you have a great idea that you would like to see featured here on Tiger and Lily Boutique? If so email us at info@tigerandlilyboutique.com

    By Paul Duxbury

Clay pot crafts are a cute way to make home decorations. In clay pot crafts, clay flower pots can be crafted into a variety of decorative things that appeal to gardeners. Usually, the crafter begins with new pots. The pots are often decorated with paint as well as being tied together with rope or cord to create things.

Pots for clay pot crafts can be purchased in many different sizes, from tiny ones not more than 2 inches in diameter, to huge ones over a foot across. For a beginning project, start with smaller pots. The beginner should also choose clay pot crafts that don’t use too many pots in too elaborate a design.

An example of a good craft for someone new at clay pot crafts is to make a bell from two clay pots. Buy one pot that is about five or six inches in diameter, and another that is very small. You will use the small one as the clapper for the bell. You will also need some decorative cord, two large wooden beads, and paint in desired colours. You may also wish to purchase some glue-on jewels to decorate the bell. The bell makes a nice decoration for a front porch.

Cut the cord two feet (60 cm.) long. Fold the end over 3 inches (8 cm.) and tie in an overhand knot, making a loop. This loop is for hanging the bell from a hook or a nail. Now turn the larger clay pot upside-down. Pass the loose end of the cord down through the hole in the pot. Lay the pot on its side and slide one of the large wooden beads up the cord until it is about 10 inches (25 cm.) from the loose end. Now tie the cord around the bead so that the bead cannot slip from its position on the cord. If you have done this correctly, you can lift the pot by the loop. In clay pot crafts, the beads must be large enough to stop the cord from going through the hole in the bottom of the pot.

On the loose end of the cord, you are going to attach the small pot in the same way. Slide the small pot up the cord to make it easier to tie the other large wooden bead on the end of the cord. Now when you lift the entire arrangement by the loop, the smaller pot should hang freely inside the larger pot, making a pleasant sound when it claps against the larger pot.

Decorate the outside of the larger pot with paint as desired. You may like to paint it in black and white patches for a Holstein cow theme. You may also like to decorate the top of the bell with silk or dried flowers and greenery and a ribbon bow.

For a variation on this craft, make three of the bells and hang them from a horizontal piece of driftwood or other interesting piece of natural wood. When making hanging clay pot crafts, always make sure the beads are large enough and are tied tightly in place, because the clay pots will break if they fall to the ground.

Other clay pot crafts include making a large doll or scarecrow of nested pots strung together and painted. The doll can sit on a chair or a step of the front porch. Paint his face to look like a scarecrow, a jack-o-lantern, a gnome, or a child. Clay pot crafts are especially suited to being displayed outside.

    Dollhouse Assembling Made Easy

Don’t forget to stop by our store to see all the amazing new gift ideas. Http://www.tigerandlilyboutique.com/store

    By: Bobby B

For some people, dollhouse collecting has turned into a captivating hobby, mainly because of the intricate designs, shapes and level of detailing. However, when it comes to drawing a line between dollhouse series for children and a dollhouse that addresses adult collectors, the difference is huge. Dollhouse miniatures for adults are specifically designed for depicting the exact architectural details and constructional expertise of a real house, but at a smaller scale.

In addition, dollhouse collections include items that depict a variety of trends, contemporary styles and classic architecture, so assembling a dollhouse that depicts the Victorian period, for example, can turn into an exciting adventure.

Assembling a valuable dollhouse is a process that requires attention, patience and skills. Setting a dollhouse in a specific period is possible only if you manage to assemble it correctly. Therefore, we thought to provide dollhouse collectors with a short and handy guide on how to assemble a dollhouse:

    Step 1 Unwrapping the box

This seems like an easy task: what could be mentioned about opening the box? Well, when it comes to dollhouse items, fragility and accurate labeling are the first things you need to do when unwrapping the box.

Just write the name of each piece before you take it out of its sheet and also the sheet number. This way, when you will get to the assembling part, you’ll have every piece nicely organized for putting the dollhouse together.

You might find pieces that need light sanding before assembling, or others that were not completely die cut during the manufacturing process. Therefore, a hobby knife might come handy.

Step 2 Choosing the right glue

Assembling a dollhouse requires collectors to learn a bit more about glue, because different types of glue are used during the different stages of assembling the dollhouse.

Wood glue is ideal for upper grade dollhouse kits, but also for die cut dollhouses. Remember to remove the excess glue between steps with a paintbrush.

Glue guns can be used to hold pieces that are drying. However, hot glue doesn’t work well with a dollhouse, considering the fact that is not meant for permanent applications. At one time or another, heat and cold will cause it to separate and spoil your entire work.
Before actually using the glue, it is recommended to try a dry run – you’ll have an overall view on the dollhouse and get a better understanding on the entire dollhouse concept.

Step 3 – Taking care of the details

While assembling different parts of the dollhouse, taking care of details such as the electric lights can easily turn into an independent project. Doll houses are usually lighted using simple systems based on cooper foil. Just like a roll of scotch tape, the wiring can be scrolled everywhere you want power. Electric light for dollhouse miniatures is really not expensive; it will cost you less than $25. The basic idea is that this is something easier to install during the assembling process rather than after the doll house is up.

Some collectors chose to apply a thin layer of semi gloss paint on the wood parts of the doll house.

From this point further, the sky is the limit; anyone can personalize a dollhouse according to their personal taste or budget. Miniature dollhouse furniture and other accessories are available in local stores or over the Internet. All you have to do is look for that special doll house accessory for creating a unique piece of art.

Whether you are collecting doll houses for fun, for relaxation or for enjoying special moments with your kids, one thing is sure: doll houses are a unique way to express a person’s creativity and skill. The reward is unparallel, and the finished dollhouse is something that the entire family can enjoy.
