Earth Friendly Bird Feeder

by Tiger and Lily Boutique

Materials:

  • Medium to large Pine cone
  • Lard
  • Bird seed
  • Paper plate
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Spoon
  • Here are the directions:

    1. Using the lard and spoon place a large amount of the lard onto and in the groves of the pine cone. Be sure to coat the pine cone well as this is what will help the bird seed stick to the bird feeder.

    2. Place a good amount of bird seed onto the paper plate.

    3. Roll the lard coated pine cone in the bird seed. Using your fingers place bird seed in the cracks and crevice of the pine cone. The key is to make as much of the bird seed stick into the lard that is on the pine cone.

    4. Tie the ribbon around the neck of the pine cone.

    5. Find a tree near your house and tie it. Make sure you tie it high enough in the tree for the birds to be safe from any predators while enjoying their earth friendly meal.

    Tissue Paper Flower

This is a fun craft that can be used in so many ways. I have seen thease tissue paper flowers at birthday parties’ weddings and picnics too. The kids and I decided to make one for each of the grandmas to brighten their day. After we cut and folded the tissue paper flowers we sprayed each with a small amount of perfume to make them smell good too!

Fun with Foamies Valentine’s Day Cards

    By Rachel Paxton

Foamies have become very popular during the past couple of years.

You can find them in all shapes and sizes and for almost every holiday. They are great for children’s craft projects, but anyone can use them to make easy, creative greeting cards. I found a big tub of Valentine’s Day foamies at Walmart for just a couple of dollars, so I decided to try my hand at making homemade Valentine’s Day cards with them.

This Valentine’s Day project is a great activity to do with your kids. Children as young as toddlers can stick the foamies on the cards after you have done the initial cutting and gluing. Preschoolers can even help with that part. While I was getting the cards ready to put together, I gave my toddlers some blank paper and a handful of heart-shaped foamies, and they had a great time sticking them all over their pieces of paper.

I came up with four different designs for my Valentine’s Day cards. The materials listed below will make one of each of the four cards.

    Materials:

    - Four pieces of red card stock
    - One piece of white card stock
    - Valentine’s Day foamies
    - Paper cutter, scissors
    - Glue stick
    - Decorative scissors

First use the paper cutter to cut the red card stock into the desired sizes for your cards. I usually determine the sizes of my cards by the envelopes I have to put them in. I have a stack of envelopes of all different sizes, so each card can end up being a different size.

    Card #1:

Turn the first card to open horizontally. I cut out four small squares of white card stock to glue in the center of the card to form one large square, with just a little space in between squares. I then placed a large red foamie heart in the center of each white square.

    Card #2:

This card will also open horizontally. For this one I cut out eight small white squares and glued them in two rows of four squares across the face of the card. In the center of each square I placed a small heart foamie, alternating pink and red hearts. I trimmed the bottom edge of the front of the card with decorative scissors.

    Card #3:

Turn this card to open vertically. I cut a large square out of white card stock and trimmed around all the edges of the square with decorative scissors. I glued the white square in the center of the card and placed a large red foamie heart in the center of the square.

    Card #4:

This card will also open vertically. First I cut a piece of white card stock into the shape of a rectangle, to be slightly smaller than the face of the card. I next trimmed around the edges of the rectangle with decorative scissors. I then cut two red pieces of cardstock into the shapes of squares and glued them one above the other inside the white rectangle. Next I cut out two white squares to fit inside the red squares. Lastly, I placed a medium-sized red foamie in the center of each white square.

That’s it! These Valentine’s Day cards are fun for anyone to make. You can make them in less than half an hour and people will think you slaved over them for hours!

How To Make/Design A Wooden Jewelry Box

    by Lara Smith

To start, help your child or significant other pick an undecorated jewelry box. The most common type of jewelry box is one with a wooden flip top lid. With time there have been several changes introduced in the designs and styles of the boxes but the function is always the same, to hold what is precious to each owner.
Once a box has been picked out, she can decorate it however they want. This is a great project because it involves minimal adult supervision. It is always a good idea to keep a watch over your child especially if you are using hot glue guns, or sharp objects like scissors. Make sure to have your child glue things to her jewelry box like multicolored jewels, glitter, foam cut outs, etc. The possibilities truly are endless when it comes to designing your own jewelry box. Egg Carton Ladybug Craft Project

The Egg Carton Ladybug is the forth Tiger and Lily Boutique original egg carton craft project.  :-)   I told you that the Butterfly was the last egg carton craft but we had one more that slipped by.   And she is the cutest one!!!  A couple of these ladybug’s would be very cute sitting on a branch of your Christmas tree.  I do love handmade kid ornaments on my tree.  Make sure you put the date or at least the year on the inside so you now how old your kids were when they made their keepsakes.  Also this little cutie would make a great gift decoration.  Put her on top instead of a bow!

10 Slam-Dunk Crafts for Little Kids — And Bigger

New craft project posted today on Tiger and Lily Boutique, called 10 Slam Dunk Crafts for Little Kids, written by Chris Yates.

Crafting with young children really isn’t about creating something in particular. Most young children don’t have the foresight to see what a project is going to be.

For young children it’s more important that they have the opportunity to play and experiment with art. Kids need to use as many of their senses as possible to get the most out of crafting. This allow them to try new sensory experiences, as well as learn causal relationships.
