Dried flower wreaths can be especially beautiful and add that little bit of elegance to the interior of your home, or can be used as a door wreath, as you prefer. Personally I like to make them and hang them on a mirror of a buffet cabinet in the dining room or on a round wall mirror in the living room. I call these “grandmother’s” wreaths, because I choose to make them in the old fashioned way in which my grandmother made them.

The smell of ginger and cinnamon conjures up memories of helping my grandmother prepare for Christmas. Any age child will enjoy making gingerbread men. While my eldest daughter helped to string the garland, younger children will enjoy counting and sorting the gingerbread men. We hung these fragrant garlands as a nostalgic tribute to Christmases past.

Ingredients
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup dark molasses
1/4 cup water
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
Small gingerbread man cookie cutter
Twelve yards of 1/4-inch satin ribbon
A child’s embroidery needle

Christmas Decorating: Create A Lifelike Santa In Your Bathroom

is a whimsical, original idea for your bathroom:

Materials needed:

White shower curtain, canvas, or fabric (a new canvas drop
cloth works great)
Shower curtain liner (to protect curtain from moisture)
Projector*
Permanent black marker, preferably a thick one
Paint pens
Paint
Fiberfill or cotton balls
Santa hat
Black felt (about one yard)
2 red hand towels or red fabric

*If you can draw, you may not need the projector. If you are
not artistically inclined, and do not already own a projector,
see if you can borrow one.

Don’t Throw Away Those Old Christmas Cards Each year we get lots of Christmas cards from family and friends. And, each year, I save them. But after a few years, the cards do become clutter!!

My nieces were visiting with us last weekend, and we dug out all the old Christmas cards. We had a fun time going through them, and making different crafts with them. Below is a list of the crafts we made using old Christmas cards.

They are simple to make, and from my experience with my children and my nieces, children love to make these!

Legend has it that the triangular shape of the Fir Tree was used to describe the Holy Trinity of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to people of the 7th century in Germany, who referred to the tree as ‘God’s Tree’. By the 12th century it was being hung, upside-down, from ceilings at Christmastime in Central Europe, as a symbol of Christianity. But it was Queen Victoria, who made the Christmas tree so popular in Britain, when soon after marring Prince Albert. Some of the Christian associations have been lost with the Christmas tree except that an angel or star is often placed at the top of the tree, representing the host of angels or the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity story.

I can remember my mother saving wrapping paper to reuse. However, I can also remember that when she went to reuse the paper, it was wrinkled and torn. Recently a friend of ours gave us a gift that she put in a cloth gift bag that she had made. The cloth gift bag is great; we can recycle it over and over again. If it gets dirty or wrinkled, we can wash it, and it is like new again. After talking with my friend, I decided to make one of these cloth bags. It was so simple, and easy to make.
