Unique Wedding favors ideas – Mason Jar recipes.

By Shanea Thompson
A wedding favor is a great way to say thank you to your guest that attend you special day. One of the best ways to do this is to give them something edible. A fun and inventive idea is to create a dry ingredient mason jar recipe. Below is a instructions on how to create 1 wedding favor.

Materials:
• 1 mason jar with rim
• 1 piece of fabric cover jar (any type of cotton works well)
• 1 piece of twine or raffia to wrap around the lid and secure the card
• 3”x5” card
• pinking shears
• paper punches
• colorful markers
• scissors
• 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
• 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions:
Combine the following ingredients into a large bowl; flour, baking soda and sugar. Add this mixture to the mason jar first, then add in the chocolate chips and finally place the brown sugar on top.

To close up your wedding favor place the piece of fabric over the top of the jar and screw the rim over the jar while holding the cloth in place. Cut off the edges that are sticking out from under the rim using pinking shears for a nice finished look.

Make the label for the favor. I folded a 3″ x 5″ piece of paper in half. Then, using the marker, write a message to your guests thanking them for coming to you special day on the front of the card. You can then use the pinking shears to shape the card edges for a bit more of a decorative look. On the opposite site of the card finish writing the rest of the recipe directions and ingredients:

• 3/4 cup softened butter.
• 2 eggs.
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
• Mix and drop cookies onto greased pan.
• Bake 8-10 min at 375 degrees.

Punch a small hole in the corner of the card, and tie, it around the favor.

Earth Friendly Bird Feeder

by Tiger and Lily Boutique

Materials:

  • Medium to large Pine cone
  • Lard
  • Bird seed
  • Paper plate
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Spoon
  • Here are the directions:

    1. Using the lard and spoon place a large amount of the lard onto and in the groves of the pine cone. Be sure to coat the pine cone well as this is what will help the bird seed stick to the bird feeder.

    2. Place a good amount of bird seed onto the paper plate.

    3. Roll the lard coated pine cone in the bird seed. Using your fingers place bird seed in the cracks and crevice of the pine cone. The key is to make as much of the bird seed stick into the lard that is on the pine cone.

    4. Tie the ribbon around the neck of the pine cone.

    5. Find a tree near your house and tie it. Make sure you tie it high enough in the tree for the birds to be safe from any predators while enjoying their earth friendly meal.

    Tissue Paper Flower

This is a fun craft that can be used in so many ways. I have seen thease tissue paper flowers at birthday parties’ weddings and picnics too. The kids and I decided to make one for each of the grandmas to brighten their day. After we cut and folded the tissue paper flowers we sprayed each with a small amount of perfume to make them smell good too!

Easy Sewing Project – Fabric Kitchen Towel Hanging Straps

Easy Sewing Project on Tiger and Lily Boutique.

I love to hang my kitchen towels off the door handles of my refrigerator and upright freezer. However, I wanted to be able to hang one off my oven door handle too.

I decided to make my own towel hanger out of fabric. This one has a velcro closure so that you can easily grab your towel from it when needed. The button is just there for decoration.

    Supplies Needed:

Piece of Calico Print Fabric Measuring 17 1/2″ long by 1 1/4″ wide

    1″ Round Diameter Button

1″ Square of Velcro (Hook and Loop Closure)

Sewing Machine and Basic Sewing Supplies

    Scissors and Measuring Tape

The first thing that you want to do is to cut your fabric strip down to size (see measurements above). Fold your strip in half lengthwise, right sides together and pin. Using your sewing machine, straight stitch around two of the long sides and one of the short sides. Turn the strip inside out (now the right side of the fabric is facing out) and hand sew the remaining short edge shut with a small whip stitch.

Hand sew your button on one end of the strip, about 1″ in from the edge. On the other side of the fabric strip (behind the button) machine sew on a piece of the velcro.

On the other edge of your fabric strip, machine sew on the other velcro piece. (note: this piece should be facing up aka. on the same side of the fabric as the button).

Your fabric strip is now completed. You can loop this strip around your refrigerator, freezer or oven door handle. Just thread your kitchen towel through it and its readily available when you need it.

If you are throwing a party and looking for a great party favor, you should consider making homemade chocolate candy lollipops.

You can really personalize your favors to suit the theme of your party. We were able to find the candy wafers, plastic molds, sticks, twist ties and bags all at our local craft supply store.

    Supplies You Will Need:
Chocolate Candy Wafers – Come in a variety of colors and flavors
Lollipop Candy Molds – Come in a variety of shapes and sizes
    Measuring Cup
    Microwave-Safe Bowl
    Silicone Spatula
    Lollipop Sticks
Plastic Bags – We found pretty designed ones to fit our theme
Twist Ties – Variety of colors
Silicone Drying Mat or Parchment Paper

Tips: I find it best to get out all of my supplies and have them handy. Only melt a few chocolate wafers at a time, measure them out in 1/4 cup increments. Use silicone spatulas and non-stick mats to help prevent sticking.

Place 1/4 cup of chocolate wafers into a plastic microwave-safe bowl.
Melt chocolates on 50% power setting for 30 seconds.
Stir chocolate using your silicone spatula. If needed, microwave wafers at 15 second intervals until completely melted, stirring in between each interval.

While melting the wafers, lay your candy molds on a flat surface.

Place a lollipop stick in each mold. Once wafers are done melting, using your spatula, drizzle the melted chocolate into the cavity of each mold, filling it completely.

Lightly tap mold onto flat surface to release any air bubbles that form.
Carefully carry the mold trays and place them flat on a refrigerator shelf.
Keep them in the refrigerator for 20 minutes or until they are nice and firm.

Once they are firm, remove from the refrigerator and pop them out of the molds. I like to lay mine on a nonstick silicone mat for 10 minutes before I insert the lollipops into the individual bags.
Once they are in the bag, use a twist tie to fasten the bag shut.

    Making Dried Flower Wreaths

    article by: Dawn Keadic

Dried flower wreaths can be especially beautiful and add that little bit of elegance to the interior of your home, or can be used as a door wreath, as you prefer. Personally I like to make them and hang them on a mirror of a buffet cabinet in the dining room or on a round wall mirror in the living room. I call these “grandmother’s” wreaths, because I choose to make them in the old fashioned way in which my grandmother made them.
